Etlingera elatior 'Red' Ginger. This very exotic tropical has one of the world's most beautiful flowers. Red Torch Ginger is native to South East Asia and is called apuhi ko'o ko'o in Hawaii. This is a clumping type of ginger with large elongated leaf stems that may attain 15 feet. The name describes the inflorescence that forms at the end of a stalk and resembles a torch. The dark green foliage is often maroon beneath, which adds to the ornamental beauty of this ginger. Very easy to grow in full sun with plenty of warmth and well drained conditions. Requires consistently moist soil, water freely and feed monthly in growing season. It should be planted in a rich soil . Enjoys high humidity . Not frost or cold tolerant. Great in the greenhouse or grown in pots in colder climates. 10 seeds
